Obituary of Winifred M. Ellena

Winifred "Winnie" M. Ellena, 90, of Duluth, passed away peacefully Thursday, Aug. 31, 2017 in Marywood Assisted Living. Winnie was born in Duluth on Sept. 24, 1926 to Michael and Mary Spehar. She was very active in St. Elizabeth's Church and the Slovenian Women's Union. Winnie loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a loving mother and grandmother. The family would like to thank the staff at Marywood Assisted Living for their care and support during Winnie's stay. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dominic; brothers, Edward Spehar and James Spehar; and sister, Margaret "Dolly" Spehar. Winnie is survived by her children, John (Mary) Ellena, Carolina (Frederick) Shermock, Mark (Susan) Ellena, and Denise (Kevin) Ellena-Jones; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Anthony Spehar; and other loving family and friends. Visitation: 10 AM with a Rosary at 9:30 AM. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 AM, Saturday, Sept. 9, 2017 in St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church, 610 99th Ave W, in Duluth. Internment will take place at Calvary Cemetery in Superior, WI.
