Obituary
Obituary of Joseph Jonathan Rogers
Joseph Jonathan Rogers was born on June 18th, 1984 to Jimmy and Debra Rogers in Robbinsdale, MN. On September 2nd, 2017 Joseph unexpectedly passed away at his home in Minneapolis, MN at the age of 33.
Joseph was preceded in death by his father Jimmy “Lil Joe” Rogers, his infant brothers Nathan and Jimmy, Uncles Steve and Charles, and dear friend Dennis Ditsch.
Joseph is survived by his mother Debra, son Quinton (mother Nicki Groth), daughter Jordynn (mother Ashley Melina) and his partner/ girlfriend, Elyse Jorgenson. He is also survived by his Godparents Kathleen Freeman and Jason Mayse, sister Sherrell Lynn Rogers, uncles Greg, Brian and Vernon Ness and their families. He also leaves behind his “brother” Abraham Sando and many other close friends that he thought of as family.
Joe spent the last few years battling through his diagnosis and treatment of cardiomyopathy (heart failure), which led to the implantation of his BIVADS in 2016. On January 31st, 2017 Joe was blessed with the gift of life when he received heart #878 at the University of Minnesota. He spent much of his time at the hospital on units 4E and 6C, where he was very well cared for and developed close relationships with his surgeons, doctors, nurses and floor staff. Joe was a member of the Second Chance for Life support group and was planning on working as a volunteer with transplant patients.
Joe was a loving son, devoted and proud father to Quinton and Jordynn, caring boyfriend/partner to Elyse and a reliable friend to many. He was known for his sharp wit, sense of humor and contagious laugh. Joe always had a positive attitude, even in the scariest and most challenging of times. He encouraged others to do and be their best, and was a great motivator and mentor. Joe loved to spend his time playing with his kids, fishing, playing pool, cooking, talking with his friends and listening to hip hop music. Joe was known for his color coordinated Air Jordan and Nike outfits with matching hats and shoes…he took pride in his wardrobe. Joe was looking forward to moving into the home he and Elyse were purchasing, and was excited to see Quinton and Jordynn start school this fall. Joe was also looking forward to renewing his certification as a CNA and figuring out what he wanted to do when he could go back to work. Joe was living life to the fullest and always had a smile on his face. We now have a very special angel watching over us, Joe will truly be missed by many. He is so loved.
Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 17, 2017 at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 7110 France Avenue South, Edina. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials, which will be used for Quinton and Jordynn’s future educational funds.
