Warren Ulysses Hueler, age 97, recently of Edina, MN, passed away peacefully August 10, 2018. Born February 26, 1921, in Lincoln, Wisconsin, the son of Rudolph and Helena (Boettcher) Heeler. He was preceded in death by wife, Patricia (Hall) Hueler; and siblings, Hubert Hueler, Sylvester Heeler, Marvin Heeler and Avona Purdy. He is survived by his children, Rebecca (John) Mach, and Gregory (Kelli) Hueler; 5 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Warren graduated from Tomah High School in Wisconsin in 1938. He worked on the family farm until he joined the Marines 3rd Division serving in WWII from 1944-1946 during which he was deployed to Saipan and occupied Japan. After the war he attended the University of Illinois, Champagne-Urbana, was in the Delta Phi Fraternity and graduated in 1952 with a degree in agronomy. He joined the USDA Grain Inspection Division in 1952 and continued as the Field Office Manager in Duluth, MN, retiring after 36 years as a federal employee in 1988. During his tenure, he toured Asia with USDA officials to promote U.S. grain exports. Warren was a life-long hunting and fishing enthusiast. He enjoyed hunting bear (with a single shot muzzle-loader), deer, grouse, antelope and elk, was a volunteer youth firearms safety instructor and a member of the MN Deer Hunters Association. Throughout his life Warren was an avid gardener, and after retirement, became an accomplished woodworker successfully selling his wares at craft shows throughout the Upper Midwest. His sports loyalties were split across states as a Twins and Packers fan. An American history buff, Warren had a particular interest in the American West and the Civil War. He and his stories will be sorely missed. A memorial service will be planned for a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the donor's charity of choice.
