Obituary of Vern E. Hirsch

Vern E. Hirsch, 96, passed away Sept. 23, 2017. He was born on April 23, 1921, in Isabel, SD. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Doris (Ross); his parents, Ed and Louisa Hirsch; and siblings Violet Moore and Alvin Hirsch. Vern is survived by his four daughters, Mary Lou Cook, Marcia (Norton) Lawellin, Maureen (Larry) Anderson, Michele (Vincent) Capobianco; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He loved being a father and grandfather. He joined the Army in 1942 and was in the Battle of the Bulge. He loved to tell and write stories about his experiences. In 1947, Vern married his beautiful bride, Doris Ross. They then moved to Rapid City, SD, where Vern would own the State Barber Shop. Vern was a skilled woodworker and enjoyed making beautiful items for friends and family. His legacy of ornate cabinets, clocks, and tables will forever keep Vern in our memories.
