Obituary of Jay Lloyd Grytdahl

Jay Lloyd Grytdahl, age 62, of Duluth, passed away September 24, 2017 at VA Medical Center in Minneapolis surrounded by family. Jay was born March 1, 1955 at St. Lukes Hospital, Duluth, MN to Lloyd Howard and June (Grenner) Grytdahl. Jay graduated from Duluth East Senior High in 1973. Jay is an Eagle Scout from Troop 73 from the Lutheran Church Good Shepherd. He earned his B.A. at UM-Duluth and his Juris Doctor from University of MN School of Law. Jay served in the US Army Judge Advocate Corp, stationed in Germany for 8 years. He was a corporate attorney in Charlotte, NC; Chicago, IL; and Memphis, TN. Most recently he was an English and Business Law instructor at Jinan University, Guangzhou, China. Jay loved to create family dinners and enjoyed hunting and the outdoors. Jay is preceded in death by parents Lloyd and June, and sister Judith. He is survived by sons Andrew, Stephen, Connor (Katelyn) and Matthew; brothers Robert (Dawn) Grytdahl, Kim (Dixie) Grytdahl, and his aunt, Margaret (Grytdahl) Soderquist. A service will be held at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Duluth on Monday, October 9, 2017 at 1 pm; followed by interment at Forest Hill Cemetery Duluth. Memorials are preferred to the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 1325 N 45th Ave E, Duluth, MN 55804. The family would like to thank the staff at the VA Medical Center in Minneapolis. Their level of care for Jay, their sincere kindness, empathy, and compassion for both Jay and our family who were with him was of the highest caliber.
