Obituary
Obituary of Roberta Ann Couture
Roberta Ann Couture, longtime resident of Duluth passed away Sunday, October 1, 2017.
She was born February 22, 1944 in Duluth to Raymond and Helen Jobin. After high school Roberta received her Associate degree in Nursing.
Roberta was a nurse at Nopeming and Chris Jensen Nursing Homes for 35 years and took excellent care of the residents there. She spent many years working on the Alzheimer's unit, so they held a special place in her heart. She was a member of St. James Catholic Church. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, friend, and nurse. Although small in size she was large in personality, independent and full of energy. She "never let grass grow under my feet". The matriarch of our family, her presence lit up a room and the lives of those around her. She enjoyed fishing, hunting and morning cribbage battles with her husband David of 32 years. She loved him and he was able to keep up with her in life. She also loved her family and it showed. We were so lucky to have her as our Mom, Grandma, Sister. The lessons she taught us (which were not always easy for her) were lifelong and done out of love. We never had to wonder what was on her mind, she would tell us. "You can take my advice or put it in your circular file". She had a great sense of humor and was funny even when she wasn't trying to be. She loved to sing even though she "flunked the nun's choir", and believed singing was another form of praying. Her relationship with the Lord and spiritual life was very important to her. As a young lady she started her journey up at St. Scholastic Priory, at the point of her final vows she had a change of heart. She told us that she had wanted a home and family. Her faith remained strong though throughout her life. She often quoted scripture, sang songs, attended mass, prayed everyday and put other's needs before her own. In her final years she looked forward to visits from her priest, setting up her altar in anticipation for these visits. She was a feisty gal right to the very end, had a difficult time accepting help from others. Although it is with great sadness that she is no longer with us, she is with the Lord and others who have gone before her. Her struggle with COPD lasted many years, but now she is at peace and would want us to be happy for her.
Roberta was preceded in death by daughters, Cindy Plachecki and Beth Conner; granddaughter, Nicole Seguin; parents; and brother, Larry Jobin.
She is survived by her husband, David Couture, Sr.; children, Cindy (John) Seguin, Kim (Jason) LeDoux, Missy Fossum, David (Tammy) Couture, Jr. and Gail Ford; Grandchildren, Nick, Amber, Kyle, Eliyanna, Max, Gunner, Jed, Caitlyn, Cassandra, Leo, Amanda, Zach, Kyle, Kristen, Karlee, Danelle and Erin; her sister, Patricia Meier; and special furry friend, Buddy.
