Obituary of Myrna Grace Hammer
Myrna Grace Hammer of
Brainerd passed away on
October 8, 2017 at the age
78. Born on October 19,
1938 in Bemidji MN, she
was the oldest daughter of
three to Ivan and Gladys
Rogers (whose death precedes
her). She was raised
on the family farm in Kelliher,
MN. Myrna is survived
by her husband Fredean
Charles Hammer of 60 years, children Mike Hammer
(daughter-in-law Colleen; grandsons Jonathan, Tyler,
and Jordan) of Baxter, Leisha Tietz (son-in-law Roger;
grandson Nicholas) of Pequot Lakes, and Mary Friberg
(son-in-law Sam) of Salmon, ID, and sisters Gloria Henriksen
and Marie McCarthy.
Myrna had a successful career as a vocational rehabilitation
specialist with the State of MN. She retired in 1997.
In retirement, she valued spending time with her family,
grandsons, and friends and loved conversation. She enjoyed
the outdoors including going for walks, cross-country
skiing, fishing, feeding her backyard birds, and trips to
the Northshore and the Arizona desert. Her other hobbies
included crafts, golfing, and gardening. She had a
passion for the history of the Great Lakes and Scandinavian
culture.
Services for Myrna will be Saturday, October 14, at
Christ Lutheran Church, 13815 Cherrywood Dr., Brainerd
at 11:00 with lunch following. Visitation one hour prior the
service. Her cremains will be interned at Camp Ripley
Cemetery.
The family is sincerely thankful for the love and care
provided to Myrna by the staffs of Edgewood Vista, Harmony House, and Horizon Health Hospice
