Obituary of Robert Myers Pope

Rob Pope, age 70, of Golden Valley passed away on December 1 of complications from ALS.  Rob was born in Des Moines, IA and later lived in St. Ansgar, IA before moving to Minneapolis.  Rob loved music, particularly The Eagles and The Temptations, to which he mastered the “Man Dance”.  He liked to travel and enjoyed many trips to Hilton Head and Mexico, along with numerous other destinations.  He enjoyed fishing and was passionate about golf, playing many rounds at Brookview and Heritage Links.  He always enjoyed Happy Hour in the backyard in the company of good friends.  Above all, he loved his wife, sons, family and friends.

Rob was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Pope and Betty Smith and his sister-in-law Maggie Pope.  He is survived by his wife, Liz Elder, his sons Drew and Alex Pope, his brothers Mike Pope, Steve Pope (Lori) and Adam Smith (Judy), sister-in-law Jane Naughtin (Tom), along with many nieces, nephews and friends.  There will be a Celebration of Rob’s life on Monday, December 12th from 4-6pm at Brookview Community Center in Golden Valley.  Please join us for some music and refreshments – and as Rob would want, casual dress.  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the National ALS Association or to an organization of your choice.
