Obituary of Marilyn Hergert

Marilyn (Binford) Hergert, age 87, passed away on October 12, 2017. Born on June 7, 1930 in El Dorado, KS, to Walter and Maude Binford. Marilyn married Donald Hergert on February 14, 1954. She received her master’s in piano from the James Milikin University in Decatur, Illinois. Marilyn taught piano lessons for 55 years in Kansas, Illinois, and finally Duluth, MN., retiring in 1999. She also played harpsichord with a string quartet at private events for many years. Marilyn was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and enjoyed volunteering at St. Luke’s Hospital. She loved to bake, garden, read and especially enjoyed time spent on the Gunflint Trail. Preceded in death by her son, David in 2000; husband, Donald in 2012, and her parents. Survived by her children, Tanja Gustafson, Kristin (Jeff Galbraith) Hergert and Dolf (Polla) Hergert; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends. Memorial service 10 am on Friday, November 24th at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 1710 E. Superior St., Duluth, MN 55812. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. Paul’s Episcopal Church.
