Obituary of Phyllis J. Balzart

Phyllis J. Balzart, age 94, of Burnsville. Born Feb. 17, 1923 in rural Dodge Co. to Gerhard and Hazel (Hastings) Wethall, she passed peacefully at her home on Oct. 17. She was the oldest of 3 Wethall sisters of Hazel Park. Phyllis married newly minted Army 2nd Lt. Edward J. Balzart, Jr. on Oct. 26, 1943, in Davis, CA. After the war, while he attended the Univ. of MN. on the GI Bill, they raised a family in married student housing (Army barricks). After he graduated and was employed as an engineer by Honeywell, the family lived in Lauderdale and Shoreview. Phyllis and Ed moved to Florida in 1971 so he could continue work on the space shuttle program. He retired in 1980 and died in 2000; Plyllis returned to MN in 2001 to be closer to family and old friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by brother Gary Wethall and nephew Thomas Boehmer. Survivors include children Donald and Suzanne; granddaughters Lisa Cass Cohen and Rachel Cass Holzman; sisters MaryLou Myrdahl and Barbara Boehmer; many treasured nieces and nephews. The family thanks the Realife Sr. Coop of Burnsville for 16 years of comfortable and convenient living, the staff at Home Health Care/Legacy for their kind care, and Fairview Hospice for their end of life efforts. There will be no funeral, gravesite services are pending.
