Obituary of Geraldine D. Hull

Geraldine (Jerry) Dorothy (Lindberg) Hull, 98, died October 21, 1917 at St. Therese home in New Hope, MN. Jerry was born in Duluth, MN July 17, 1919 and lived there until graduation from college in 1942. Jerry earned a living as a physical therapist for 40 years. She served 3.5 years in the army medical corp in the south pacific during WW II and in the Korean occupation immediately after WW II. Jerry worked in Rockford, IL until she returned to Duluth in 1961 and worked at the Polinsky Rehabilitaion Center until 1981. All her life, Jerry spent much of her leisure time volunteering, doing mostly what she knew best - helping challenged individuals. After retirement, Jerry spent 20 years fully involved in respite care programs in Duluth. She was instrumental in starting many programs for challenged individuals in Duluth. Jerry lived the rewarding life Sir Winston Churchill described in his profound conclusion concerning volunteerism: "You make a living with what you get. You make a life with what you give." Jerry says: "Try it - you will be blessed." In recent years, Jerry lived in Minneapolis with daughter Marty and enjoyed winter months living in Chandler, AZ with sister Elaine or in San Antonio, TX with nephew Terry Sjoberg. She spent many hours every day biking and enjoyed the outdoors. Jerry is preceded in death by parents Bernard and Johannah Lindberg, husband Warren Hull, and siblings: Mildred Lindberg, Arnold Lindberg, Bernice Nelson, Lillian Johnson, Peggy Sjoberg, Irene Rasmusen, and Bernard (Sparky) Lindberg. Jerry is survived by her children Martha Hull of Minneapolis and Chris (Marilyn) Hull of Duluth; grandchildren Todd Hull of Seattle, WA and Kari (Rob) Nurminen of Burnsville, MN (great-grandchildren William and Clara); sister: Elaine Berry and many nieces and nephews. A celebration of Jerry's life will take place at 1:30pm Sunday, October 29 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Duluth. Visitation at 12:30pm until service. Inurnment will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Memorials to Courage Kenny Foundation or Voyageurs Lutheran Ministry are appreciated in lieu of flowers.
