Bonny Sandgren

Obituary of Bonny Jean Sandgren

Sandgren, Bonny Jean Age 94, passed away October 23rd 2017. Preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years Marvin. Mom moved to Mpls in December 1939 from Iowa and graduated from Edison High School in 1941. Like many of her generation, she was a war bride. Wed to Army pilot Roger Neilson in 1943, she soon lost him in the skies over Normandy in June of 1944. After the war, a coworker at Midland Bank set mom up on a blind date with her cousin, Marvin Sandgren. That date launched a lifelong loving journey together that lasted until dad passed away 2 years ago. They resided in Robbinsdale until their move to assisted living a few years ago. She was active with Marvin at Salem Lutheran Church in Camden and the League of Women Voters for many years. Mom worked in the guidance office at Cooper High School until her retirement. She had a life long passion for reading which she shared with her children and friends. A very special large group of friends was the "bank club" formed from the "girls" that worked together at Midland Bank in the '40's. This group has stayed together through marriages, births of children, summer gatherings and Christmas parties. She is survived by her son Jay (Bobbie); daughter Janet; daughter Marna; grandchildren Molly (Kekoa) Rosa; Christopher (Christina) and Gavin; great grandchildren Liam and Kailani Rosa. Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Saturday, November 18th with visitation 1 hour prior to the service at Salem Lutheran Church, 4150 Dupont Ave N, Mpls, MN 55412. Private interment at Ft. Snelling to be at later date. Memorials can be made either to Salem Lutheran or to Opportunity Partners, 5500 Opportunity Court, Mtka, MN 55343.
