Obituary of Lois Nystrom

Lois Nystrom, age 82, formerly of Litchfield, passed away at Cokato Manor on October 28, 2017 of Alzheimer’s disease. Lois Ione Holmquist was born to Carl and Odell Holmquist in Logansport, Indiana. On March 11, 1935. She grew up in Litchfield where she graduated from Litchfield High School where she was a member of the gymnastics and tumbling team. She was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was baptized and confirmed. On December 27, 1952, she married her husband of 50 years, Wyman Nystrom at Zion Lutheran Church. In this union they were blessed with two daughters, Sharon Elizabeth and Susan Carol. Lois spent a lifetime in food service. She was a manager at the Colonial Café in Litchfield, a school cook, owner of Nystrom’s Truck Stop, Litchfield, Dairyland Drive-In, Fergus Falls and Nystrom’s Restaurant in Cosmos. In 1997, Wyman and Lois retired to their lake home on Wall Lake. Lois was a loving mother, grandmother and friend. She liked nothing better than spending time with loved ones and cooking and baking for them. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and sewing. Lois loved playing cards and going to the casino. She enjoyed spending winters in Florida with Wyman and later Arizona with her companion, Clayton Shoutz. Lois was preceded in death by her husband, Wyman Nystrom, her parents Carl and Odell Holmquist, five half siblings, Jack, Dick, Gary, Don and Val Layeux. Survivors include: daughters, Sharon and Layne Robertson, Litchfield, Suzie and Jack Bauer, Lexington, special niece, DiAnn and Dick Baril, Litchfield, her sister in law, Mae Brynteson, Litchield, half siblings,Bob Layeux, Ginger Hjerpe, Lovey Spencer, Joan LaFave and Michael Layeux. Grandchildren and pallbearers include: Jesse (Deb) Robertson, John (Karina) Bauer, Emily (Tom) Anglebrandt and Chad Bauer. Great Grandchildren are, Nicole and Sara Robertson, Easton Bauer and Allison Anglebrandt. In Lieu of flowers, please make donations to Cokato Manor or Hospice. Visitation is Thursday 5-7, services, 11 AM, both at Zion Lutheran Church, 504 No. Gilman, Litchfield, MN 55355.
