Delpha Kauti

Obituary of Delpha M. Kauti

Delpha M. Severin Kauti, 101 of Superior entered into eternal rest, peacefully on Sunday, November 5, 2017. Born April 3, 1916 in Minneapolis, MN, she was the oldest of sixteen children born to Emma (Royal) Severin and Peter Severin. As the oldest child, she became a caregiver for her brothers and sisters and at the age of 12, she started making homemade bread. She was an avid baker and was famous for her homemade bread, doughnuts, "fry-doughs", cinnamon rolls and many other homemade specialities. Thanksgivings and Christmas's were very special, being surrounded by family with wonderful homemade food. Her specialties were being a homemaker, a housewife and an entertainer. She loved playing cards and Farkle which she called, "Fargo". She would often be found in the kitchen, with her apron on, making homemade goodies for family and friends to enjoy. She especially enjoyed time spent with family and her love of children grew more and more as 10 children were born to her and her late husband. Aside from entertaining, she was a caregiver to children, often babysitting her grandchildren, while also helping to raise a handful of them. Her fondness of children brought her the most joy! She even loved babies of people who she did not know. She played many roles, but, most of all, she was a wonderful mother. Her caring nature and selflessness are her true legacy. She cared for others before herself. She was always a "happy-go-lucky" kind of gal with a smile from ear to ear and a boisterous laugh. Her faith, belief in God and loved-ones who passed were her "will" that kept her going for so long. She truly embraced the simple joys in life. Her humor and stories of the "good 'ole days" will be missed most by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her late mother and father, late husband; Leonard Kauti, two sons, Jack and Larry Kauti and 15 siblings. She is survived by a sister, Barbara Bautch; daughters; Shirley Archaumbault, Jane (Lauren) Forstrom, Gail (Gordon) Abrahamson, Darlene (Ernest) Rein and Sharon (Rick) O'Brien, sons; Jim (Marilyn), Polly (Nancy) and Leonard "Sonny" (Debborah) Kauti; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; having "five children with five generations". She also leaves behind "Peedee" a yellow canary and her "fur grand baby, Pepper". A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Memorial Chapel/Cremation Society of Minnesota (2700 Grand Ave., Duluth, MN) on Saturday November, 18th with the wake starting at 9AM and service starting at 10AM with a gathering of family and friends to follow. A special "Thank You" to her two daughters, Darlene and Sharon for the last 5 years of caregiving, her son, Sonny, her granddaughter, Starr, great-grandson Rhett and a special friend, Louis. The family would also like to extend their utmost gratitude for the staff at Hospice/Essentia Health-St. Mary's for the wonderful care received.
