Obituary of Thomas Richard Kroll

Thomas Richard Kroll died on August 16th, 2018 in Duluth, MN after a short battle with cancer. He was born in Littlefork, MN on November 6th, 1940 to Howard and Florence Kroll. Thomas graduated from Grand Rapids High School. He then attended St. John's University and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in Chemical Engineering. He served in the Army Reserves. He worked for Port Huron Paper Company; he helped design Lake Superior Paper Industries, was president of Marathon Engineers, and worked for Insituform Technologies. Thomas also served on the board of Miller Dwan. In 1965, he married Diane Murphy in Amsterdam, NY. Thomas was never happier than when salmon fishing on Bob Corbin's boat "Good Wood" with his cohort Norm Beauchamp. He and Diane shared a love of travel and together they explored locations around the US and the world. He enjoyed spending summers up at Fish Lake, MN fishing with his dog at his feet, spending time with his grandsons, researching his family's ancestry, and playing cards with his family and friends. He is survived by his wife Diane, daughter Katherine Lewinski (Matthew), son Mark Kroll (Kim), daughter Kirstin Baumgarten (Chris), four grandsons, and his sisters Judy Benkusky and Jan Basile. A Memorial Mass will be held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, August 29, at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Rosary in Duluth, MN with a gathering to follow.
