Obituary of Janice Arlene Easthagen

Janice Arlene Anderson was born on August 5, 1936 in Preston, Minnesota, the daughter of Amos S. and Helen (nee Tolrud) Anderson. She attended school at the Faribault School for the Blind. Here, she met her first husband, Thomas Eugene Peltier. They were married in Minneapolis on January 16, 1954 and moved to Oceanside, California, while Tom was in the United States Marine Corps from 1954 to 1956. Upon his discharge as a Sargent, they moved back to Minnesota and lived in St. Louis Park for a time. They then purchased their home on Sumter Avenue in Golden Valley. In September 1966, Tom was killed in a boating accident on Lake Minnetonka, leaving Janice to raise her girls on her own. Later, she met and married Joseph Easthagen on March 3, 1973. In addition to being a mother and homemaker, Janice worked at the Minneapolis Society for the Blind and maintained friendships with students she went to school and worked with. She so enjoyed her grandchildren, working with Joe on their house and many flower gardens, cooking,and listening to Patsy Cline, Eddie Arnold and Jim Reeves records. Another love of Jan’s was collecting and refurbishing antique dolls. Janice had a lot of energy and even through the difficult times, maintained her great sense of humor. She also enjoyed talking on the phone to her many relatives and friends. On Tuesday, November 7, 2017, Janice died at St. Therese in New Hope at the age of 81. She had battled Alzheimer’s Disease for over 17 years. She passed away peacefully with Sandy and Joe at her side. She is survived by her husband, Joe, of New Hope; daughters, Valerie Rand of Woodbury; Linda Kandels of St. Paul and Sandy (Brent) Bainey of Babbitt, Minnesota; five grandchildren, Andrew, Sheila, Dan, Tom and Chris as well as two great-grandchildren, Clementine and Avery. Also surviving is her brother, Greg Anderson of Burnsville and many loving relatives and friends. Janice was preceded in death by her first husband, Tom; her parents, her brother, Larry Anderson and sister, Patricia Anderson. There will be a Gathering of Relatives and Friends on Sunday, November 12, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Cremation Society of Minnesota’s Brooklyn Park Chapel located at 7835 Brooklyn Blvd in Brooklyn Park, MN. Graveside services will be held next week at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
