Neal, Robert "Bob" G., PhD
Age 85 of Minneapolis, MN, passed away on Aug. 27, 2022.
Bob was born in Washington D.C. on Aug. 08, 1937. He attended Landon School in Bethesda, Maryland. He entered the US Army and served 3 ½ years in Germany. Upon his honorable discharge, he enrolled in both St. John University in Annapolis, MD and American University in Washington D.C. for his undergraduate work. After earning his Masters and PhD he took his first employment as an industrial psychologist in Minneapolis. Eventually, he opened a private forensic practice assessing police recruits for mental fitness and counseling Vietnam veterans for PTSD. He volunteered his services at the Walk-In Counseling Center in Minneapolis from its inception until his retirement from practice. His final employment was a court room assessor of indigent people for Hennepin County Court system. A former swimmer and avid walker, he continued to do so as long as his health allowed and then turned to his love of reading history books, newspapers and the New Yorker until the end.
He passed away peacefully with his family surrounding him. Robert is preceded in death by his parents, Paul MD and Beatrice Whitaker; and brother and sister-in-law Atty and Maggie Munro.
He is survived by his spouse, Marjorie ; two sons, Ken (Bethany Patten), Benjamin (Loren McClenahan); two step-sons, Eric (Jolene) Rolland and Nick (Tracy) Rolland; brother, Paul W. (Irene); 10 grandchildren; and nephew and nieces.
A Celebration of Life will be held on November 25, 2022 from 12 PM - 4 PM (Circle of Remembrance at 1:30 PM) at Cremation Society of MN, 1979 Old Hudson Rd., St. Paul, MN 55119.
In lieu of flowers, donations preferred to Minnesota Veterans Home at 5101 Minnehaha Ave, Minneapolis, MN 55417.
Private interment at Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
