Obituary of Sharan Marie Kong
Sharan Marie Kong of Cambridge, MN, passed away on Sunday, October 16, 2022, at the age of 74 in the care of the ICU unit of United Hospital in St. Paul, MN. Born on January 19, 1948, in Brainerd, MN to Roland Flansburg and Lorraine (Norman) Flansburg, Sharan had six siblings, Carol, Nancy, Kevin, Tim, Jerry and Paul. Having contracted polio at the age of four, she was a resilient survivor who went on to raise a family of her own and enjoy many years with her grandchildren. She was a loving and caring person who wore her heart on her sleeve, enjoyed spending time with her family, and especially adored her grandchildren.
In her later years, she was diagnosed with Post-Polio Syndrome, and it affected her mobility, speech and swallowing. But she was not one to let it get her down. Instead she enjoyed her time, getting her nails painted weekly with new colors and designs, and she lit up when sharing the new changes with her friends. While living at Gracepoint Crossing in Cambridge, she also learned she was particularly lucky at Bingo. She would have loved to take a trip to Vegas to test that luck, but sadly such a trip was not in the cards.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Kong, her parents, Roland and Lorraine Flansburg, and her sister, Carol Latham (Flansburg). She is survived by her children, Jennifer Tope Spanier (Terence Spanier), Connie Domogalla (Chris Domogalla), her grandchildren, Samantha Domogalla, Joshua Tope, Cassandra Tope, Hunter Domogalla, Rachel Tope, Hailey Domogalla and Cole Domogalla, and her longest and dearest friend, Karen Hall.
A memorial service will be held at Seventh-Day Adventist Church with Pastor Adam Bierner on Friday, October 28th at 10:30 a.m. at the Andover, MN location: 15036 Round Lake Blvd., Andover, MN 55304. The church will accept deliveries starting at 8:00 a.m. and will open for the visitation at 10:00 a.m. Following the service there will be a luncheon from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. For those that would like to attend the burial ceremony, it will begin at 12:30 p.m. at Mound Cemetery, 3515 69th Avenue N, Brooklyn Center, MN.
Sharan’s family would like to send a special thank you to the staff at Gracepoint Crossing in Cambridge for making her place a home and loving her as part of your family. She loved you all. Thank you also to United Hospital ICU staff for keeping our mom comfortable and treating her with love and dignity. A special thanks to our transition care nurse, “Darre Bear”, who was a gentle, caring presence when we needed it most!
