Obituary of Leona Aileen Zacher
Leona Aileen Zacher, 76, of Duluth, MN, passed away on September 11 at Essentia Health. Leona was born on October 17, 1945, to Leo and Aili (Alanen) Worgren in Brookston, MN. She graduated from Albrook High School and attended Duluth Vocational School and obtained a nursing degree as an LPN. She worked for 29 years and loved talking about her career as an LPN. She retired from St. Mary’s Hospital in 2007.
She was married to Lawrence J. Zacher for 47 years.
Leona was a Girl Scout leader, a member of the American Legion, she enjoyed sewing, baking, canning, watching Hallmark and Christmas movies, and loved spending time with her family.
She is preceded in death by her son Wayne Zacher, her husband Lawrence Zacher, her parents Leo and Aili Worgren, and a sister Beverly (Chester) Christenson.
Leona is survived by her daughters Brenda (Tim) Olsen, Rhonda Zacher, and Tina (Mark) Brodin, brother Ray (Jeanette) Worgren, sister Arleen Nordin, grandchildren Brandon (Jackie) Zacher-Hunter, Zachery Olsen and Dawson Rannow, great grandchildren Delilah and Declan Zacher-Hunter.
The family would like to thank Evergreen Knoll Memory Care. A special thank you to Julie Abrahamson for helping us girls out and taking such good care of our mom.
There will be a memorial service on Saturday, October 8, at 10:00 a.m. at the Cremation Society of Minnesota Chapel, Duluth with a visitation one hour prior. A luncheon will follow.
Burial will take place at Oneota Cemetery at a later date.
