Obituary of Harlan Glen McClintock
Harlan Glen McClintock, age 80, formally of Rosemount, passed away September 19, 2022, after a long, courageous battle with COPD, he was born December 4, 1941 in Farmington, Minnesota and attended school there – graduating in the class of 1959.
As a young boy, Harlan saved the life of his friend, Herbert “Herbie” Swedin Jr. from drowning while playing in the Vermillion River. When asked how he knew what to do when interviewed for the Dakota County Tribune, Harlan answered matter – of – factly, “... from watching Tarzan movies.”
As a teenager, Harlan brought home a bird he believed had a broken wing. Sadly, the bird was actually ill, and as a result, Harlan caught psittacosis, which resulted in part of one lung having to be removed. He not only recovered, but went on to lead a full life, ignoring his doctor's prediction he shouldn't expect to live past 40!
Harlan loved serving the public. He had a long and varied career that included working as a hospital aide, serving several years on the police forces in Fremont, California and Luverne, Minnesota. He also worked in industry and ran the propane gas plant in Rosemount for many years.
Harlan had many hobbies including hunting, fishing, and operating a radio with his FCC callsign: KC0HDA. He got a kick out of training crows to talk, enjoyed working on cars, and riding motorcycles. He even raced hobby stock cars in the 70's.
Harlan was preceded in death by his ex-wife Mary A. Nelsen (2000), third wife, Felisa McClintock (2014), and his daughter, Kathy Waddell (2017): parents, Glen (2003) and Margaret (2014) McClintock, as well as his brother, Gary M. McClintock (2006).
He is survived, remembered, and missed by his son, David Lee Nelsen of Prior Lake and daughter, Lisa Marie Nelsen (Mike) of Stanwood, WA; his brother's, William McClintock (Janet) of Citrus Heights, CA, and Alyn McClintock (Nancy) of Cannon Falls, and his sister, Cheri Langlois (Steve) of Fallbrook, CA, as well as many beloved grandchildren.
As per Harlan's request – there will be no funeral or memorial. In lieu of flowers, he asked that donations be made in his memory to a children's charity. We know he would be very honored by that.
