1923 - 2022

 

Passed away August 31, 2022. Born November 22, 1923 on a farm in Dassel, MN. Preceded in death by loving wife Nathalie. Survived by children Kathy (Gordy) Nellis, Nancy Simkunas (Glen, former spouse), Kim (Burt) Carlsted-Gillis, and David Carlsted. Grandchildren Rick (Amanda) Nellis, Kristin (Matt) Rossiter, Carlie & Maddie Simkunas. Great-grandchildren Matthew, Mollie, Anna and Isaac Nellis. Jolie, Johnny Roy and Susie Rossiter.  Siblings Adolph (Mary Gail) Carlsted, John (Judy) Carlsted, and many Carlsted and Westby nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents Alfred & Edith Carlsted, siblings Ferdinand, Lowell, Ruth Jenson, Marion Rossi, Luverne, Harriet. Roy's zest for life and passion for Biking, Nordic Skiing & Running inspired many. He will be fondly remembered and dearly missed by family and friends. 

 

Roy was a longtime member of St Timothy Lutheran Church. He served in the Navy during WWII.  He was an Electrician for over 30 years (IBEW #110) and in his retirement he worked for Linders Greenhouse, delivered Meals on Wheels, and volunteered at his church. Roy was a very active athlete and had many friends in the local cross-country skiing, biking, and running communities. 

 

The family wishes to thank all the staff at EagleCrest in Roseville where our dad lived for the last two years. In addition, a thank you to the staff of Johanna Shores of Arden Hills and Health Partners Hospice for his last two weeks on earth. The love, respect, care, and joy of knowing Roy that the staff showed was so evident and blessed us.

 

Memorial Service: Saturday, September 17, 2022, visitation 10:30 and service at 11:30. North Heights Lutheran Church, 1700 W Hwy 96, Arden Hills, MN 55112. Door B. Committal at Fort Snelling in October. Memorials will be donated per Roy's wishes. Arrangements by Cremation Society of MN.
