Obituary of John Botten

John "Kayo" Botten, 84 of Duluth, died peacefully Tuesday, Dec. 5, 2017 at Chris Jensen Health and Rehabilitation Center. John was born April 3, 1933 in Duluth to Gilbert William and Olene Botten. He attended St. James grade school and Denfeld High School, entering the Army in 1953. He was stationed near the Artic and Baffin Islands and was honorably discharged in 1955, returning to work as a car repairman for the DM&IR Railway Co., retiring after 36 years in 1987. John married Carol Trifilette Nov. 3rd, 1956 at St. James Catholic Church and they are celebrating 61 years of marriage, 2017. Together they raised two children, Robin Jolene and Christofer Jon. John attended St. James Church, St. Rose of Lima, and back to St. James where he served as an usher many years. John was an avid hunter, fisherman, and Harley rider. He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Gale William, Carol Raymond and Wayne Francis. John is survived by his wife, Carol; daughter, Robin (Brian) Schmidt; son, Christofer (Lorene) Botten; grandchildren, Casey, Eli, Cade and Carter; three great-grandchildren; sister, Betty Peterson; sister-in-law, Lorene Botten; Carol's family; many nieces; nephews, childhood friend, Joe Murphy; and many other dear family and friends. Visitation: 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial, Saturday, Dec. 16 at St. James Catholic Church, 721 N 57th Ave W., parking 58th Ave entrance, Duluth. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to St. James School or 2nd Harvest Northern Lakes Food Bank. Thanks to Essentia Hospice and Chris Jensen staff for the quality care.
