Obituary of Danny L. Cohen
Danny L Cohen, 79, Duluth, MN, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Essentia-St. Mary's Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born April 3, 1938 to Robert and Jennie Cohen, Danny lived the majority of his life in Duluth. In 1963, he married the love of his life Patricia Nading Rutherford.
Danny is survived by his loving wife, Patricia; together their deep love and commitment remained strong for over 54 years. Son Michael (Maricel) Cohen, daughters Kelly Oviatt Cohen and Lani Cohen. Grandchildren Hillary (Joseph) Brooks, Roxanne Erickson and Chelsea Nettles. Great grandchildren Nora and Clair Brooks and Charlie Jensen. Brothers, Jack (Colleen) Cohen and Don Cohen. Brothers in law John (Kathleen) Nading and Robert (Joan) Nading, and many nieces and nephews.
Danny was a 1956 Graduate of Central High School. He served 4 years in the Army in Okinawa, Japan followed by several years in the Civil Service, working on Wake Island and Honolulu, Hawaii. Upon returning to Duluth he went to work at Duluth Ready Mix as an equipment operator, then later the Duluth Transit Authority as a bus driver. The majority of Danny's working career was at Minnesota Power where he spent 26 years, retiring in 1995. Post retirement, his hobby jobs were driving for Stride (20 years) and driving the courtesy van for Krenzen (7 years).
In 1995, Danny and Pat moved to their retirement home in Spirit Cove on the St. Louis River where he and Pat have been an integral part of their neighborhood and loved by all.
Everywhere Danny worked he developed lasting friendships and was highly regarded and respected. He was always thought of as a true gentleman who lived with dignity and grace. He was one of the first to welcome new neighbors and help them in any way he could. His honesty, integrity and character were well known by all. Danny loved people and people loved Danny. There wasn't anywhere Danny went where he didn't run into someone he knew and always took time to engage in conversation. We will all carry a part of him in our hearts. And it is with great sorrow that we say goodbye. He left us way too soon.
Gathering of family and friends from 2 p.m. until the 3 p.m. memorial service Wed., Dec., 13th in the Cremation Society of Minnesota Chapel, 4100 Grand Ave., Duluth.
