Obituary of James Edward Hansen

James Edward (Jim) Hansen, age 91, Duluth, MN expired peacefully at Solvay Hospice Home on December 7, 2017. He was born and raised on the Duluth central hillside. He attended Nettleton and Washington schools, and was a physical instructor at the boys YMCA while attending Duluth Central High School, from where he graduated in 1944. He served in the US Navy during WWII on four ships in the Pacific Theater. He worked 32 years in the Claims Department of the Great Northern and Burlington Northern Railroads. He retired in 1981 as the Division Claims Manager. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, DAV, YMCA, and was a founding member of the Lake Avenue Loafers. Jim enjoyed family, cooking, reading, and trout fishing local streams. He loved to read to his great granddaughters Elsa and Elizabeth. Surviving family include: Ruth Hansen (spouse), daughters Jamie Strand, Kellie (John) Lund, sons Todd and Timothy Hansen, grandchildren Andrew and Adam Strand, Sarah and Allison Winter, and many extended family members and step-family members. Family wishes to thank staff members of Keystone Bluffs and Solvay Hospice Home for their excellent care and support. A private family service will be planned forthcoming.
