Joan M. Grinnell Neiman

 

Joan was born June 30, 1942 in Tyler, MN to Arthur and Veronica Grinnell. She was raised on a farm near Verdi, attended school in Verdi and graduated with the class of 1960. She then moved to Minneapolis and graduated from Minneapolis Business College. She worked at NW Bank in Downtown Minneapolis. Joan married Virgil Neiman in 1962 and they moved to New Jersey, onto Maryland and later California before eventually returning to Minnesota to raise their family. Joan worked for the Minneapolis Public School district in their food service department for several years. During that time she was also busy with her children, Monica and Richie. She loved being their mom and going to their sporting events. She was always an active and loving Grandma with her 4 grandchildren and 4 bonus grandchildren (Twin sister Jane's Grandchildren) She was an avid cheerleader for their sporting events, just as she had been for her own kids. She loved to cook and bake for them and always had time to listen and lend words of encouragement during their frequent visits. After Joan retired she spent her winters in Mesa, AZ enjoying the warm weather and all the activities offered. She enjoyed swimming, hiking and biking but especially spending time with her twin sister Jane. She enjoyed her MN summers, spending time with her kids and grandkids. She loved to go boating on Prior Lake and enjoyed tending her gardens. Joan passed away surrounded by family February 18, 2022. She is survived by her son Richard (Michelle) of Prior Lake, 4 grandsons, Chris Hill of Rochester, Luke, Walker and Jack Neiman of Prior Lake, her twin sister Jane (Albert) Jaspersen of Mesa, her niece Jackie (Matt) Connors of Mesa and nephew Tim Jaspersen of Prior Lake and bonus grandchildren Erin & Evan Connors and Tyler & Alec Jaspersen, and sister Colleen Delaney of Pipestone. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Virgil, daughter Monica, sisters Madelyn, Bonnie, Jackie and brothers Art and Jim. There will be an informal celebration of life held on Friday July 29th from 5-7:30pm at the home of Rich Neiman. 14274 Rutgers Street NE Prior Lake, MN.
