Obituary of Barbara Knapp

Barbara “Dee” Knapp was a caring wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She left this world peacefully on July 7, 2022, at the age of 89.

After graduating from high school, Barbara chased her dream to travel the world by joining the US Army, where she achieved the rank of Sergeant in the Women’s Army Corps. She met her husband, Raymond Knapp, while stationed in Japan. Together, they had three children: Raymond Jr., Jennifer (Brad Slater), and Leah (Fred Ridler).

Barbara loved spending time with family, whether going on shopping adventures, trying new restaurants, or spoiling her four grandchildren: Ryan, William, Jenna, and Rachael. She enjoyed music (especially Tom Jones), road trips, and making people laugh. Barbara’s passion for needlework is exemplified by the quilts, counted cross stitch and sweaters that will be enjoyed for years to come.

Her family is grateful for the wonderful care that Barbara received at Trails of Orono.

A celebration of Barbara’s life is planned for Tuesday, August 30 at The Cremation Society of Minnesota, 7110 France Avenue South, Edina MN 55435. Visitation from 9-10am, with celebration at 10am followed by military burial at Ft. Snelling at 1:30pm. Barbara’s life goal was to “pet all the dogs;” a memorial for her has been created at Secondhand Hounds.
