Loving and kind. Hard-working. Devoted to family. Charles Emanuel Otto was born to Raymond and Andrena (Penfield) on Feb 1, 1931 in Chamberlain, S.D. He graduated from Notre Dame Academy in Mitchell, S.D. and went on to study electrical engineering at South Dakota School of Mines before being drafted. Charles served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War (7th Infantry, 7th Division, Fox Company, 1st Squad, 1st Platoon) and was awarded two Purple Hearts. He wed Dorothy Kurtenbach on June 26, 1952 in Manhattan, Kan. They made their home in North St. Paul, Minn. and were married 63 years. Charles retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1989 after an honorable career of 36 years.
Preceded in death by his parents; step-father Harry; siblings Marlys Rae and James; wife Dorothy; daughter Sondra; great-grandson Jameson. Survived by children Charles II and Linda; granddaughters Darcy (Dan) and Leah (Jaired); great-grandkids Kailey and Otto; and siblings Mary, Tom and Patrick.
Funeral Mass to be held Jan 3., 2018 at 11AM, Church of St. Peter, 2600 N. Margaret St., North St. Paul, Minn. Visitation at 10AM. Luncheon after Mass. Military honors with interment to follow at Fort Snelling Ntl. Cemetery.
