Obituary of Daniel Burdette Phipps

Daniel Burdette Phipps of Andover, MN was born 8/12/64 and passed away on 12/21/17 at the young age of 53. For the last 4 years he has fought an incredible fight against cancer that finally won over his battle. Dan was born to his parents Burdette and Mary Phipps. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Bloomington, MN. Shortly after graduation he enlisted in the army and served from 1983 to 1986. Dan was employed at TruGreen for many years – he managed and nurtured employees over the years and worked endless hours during the lawn season. Dan was a passionate family man and was loved by many. He is survived by his wife Paula Mae (Johns) Phipps. The absolute pride and joy of his life – children Miranda (19), Jake & Jenna (17) all of Andover, MN. His step-children Samantha Kriesel (Mike Martin) – Excelsior, MN and Lincoln Remer (Naomi Kamleiter) – Norwood, MN and special little grandbabies Harrison, Levi and Brogan. Dan’s mother Mary (Thorson) Phipps – Bloomington. MN and siblings – Laurie (Scott) Thiers – Bloomington, MN, Jody (Mike Rogers) Sieloff – San Antonio, TX and Tim (Nancy) Phipps – Bloomington, MN. Dan’s in-laws Dave & Arla Huser – Lester Prairie, MN and Duane & Karolyn Johns – Overland Park, KS. He was further survived by his brother-in-laws – Tim (Brenda) Johns – Crowley, TX, Steve (Erin) Johns – Denver, CO, Eric (Janean) Huser, Brooklyn Park, MN and Paul (Ann) Huser – St Michael, MN and sister-in-laws Robin (Roy) Belfrey – Plymouth, MN and Lindsey (Ryan) Tanke – Minnetrista, MN; and many nieces, nephews and friends. And we can’t forget his buddy, daily companion and therapy partner Daisy Mae – the best golden retriever. He was preceded in death by his father Burdette Phipps in 1997. Honorary pallbearers – Brent Bischof, Doug Evans, Dave Gallup, Gregg Lundquist and John Alto. Dan was an avid sports fan in high school, the military and more often in the Anoka school program. He had a passion for basketball from coaching to just attending and supporting his kids along with those that he loved over the years – AARA, Minnesota Heat, Minnesota Stars and more recently Minnesota Fury. His phrase was “I hate losing more than I love winning”. The family would like to send a special thank you and love to the Minnesota Oncology of Coon Rapids – Dr Noel Laudi, Lacey, April, Meagen and the entire staff – you have been his family for the last 4 years and he absolutely had a love for all of you. Christ Presbyterian Church and Pastor Rich Phenow for all your support, comfort and hours spent with Dan. You helped him understand and hopefully find peace within himself. The SeQuel Response family – where do we begin to even thank you – giving Paula the time to care for Dan, the holiday surprise for the kids and the never-ending love and support. Curt Slater, Derrick Grow, Jay Carroll and Randy Sieben for making his celebration service the most memorable. And to everyone for the phone calls, meals, text messages, prayers and cards – it has been extremely overwhelming and very heartfelt. His children were his everything, his brother “flap” was his best friend, his sisters were so supportive, his mother loved him like no other and his wife took care of him to the very end … he was loved so much and yes it breaks our hearts to let him go but we move on without him as we are blessed to have this amazing angel looking after all of us.
