Obituary of Doreen B. Polanka

Doreen B. Polanka, 86, of Duluth, passed away on Thursday, December 21, 2017 in her home. Doreen was born in Duluth on January 12, 1931 to Stephen and Ethel (Levett) Gowers. She graduated from Denfeld High School and was later married to Dean Polanka. Doreen worked as a switchboard operator at Hotel Duluth for many years. She was an avid bowler and also enjoyed taking cross-country trips with her husband on their Harley in the summer and snowmobiling locally in the winter. She is preceded in death by her husband Dean; her parents; brother Stephen and sister Bernice. Doreen is survived by sons, William (Marquerite) and Jeffrey (Kathryn) Polanka; grandchildren, Hunter Polanka, Brittany (Greg Ramaker) Polanka, Jacqulyn Polanka, Janelle (Bruce) Richardson, Kassandra Polanka and Eric Ranua; 4 great-grandchildren and twin sister Dorothy Quario. A gathering of family and friends will be held from 9 am until the 10 am memorial service on Saturday, December 30, 2017 at Cremation Society of Minnesota 4100 Grand Ave. Duluth, MN.
