Obituary of Richard Frank Krummel

Dr. Richard Frank Krummel Richard Frank Krummel, PhD, passed away on December 30, 2017 at the age of 92 in Edina, Minnesota. He was born on August 4, 1925 in Buffalo, New York. He served in the infantry division of the United States Army at the end of World War II during the Allied occupation of Berlin. It was during his term of enlistment that he met his wife Evelyn in Berlin, and together they embarked on a 70-year adventure of travel, family, and scholarship. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in German at the University of Buffalo, New York, and his PhD in Philosophy at the University of Kentucky in Louisville. He was a professor emeritus in German at Bemidji State University in Bemidji, Minnesota. He was the editor of Germanic Notes and Reviews from 1975 to 2005. He wrote a four-volume bibliography entitled Nietzsche und der deutsche Geist. His private book collection on which his life-long research on Nietzsche is based is housed in the Nietzsche-Dokumentationszentrum in Naumburg, Germany. Richard is survived by his wife Evelyn, daughters Susan, Karen (Leon), and Barbara (Russell), grandchildren Stefanie, Elena, Theodor, Daniel, and Katy, a nephew Richard Clark and a niece Judy Peluso. His intellectual curiosity, generous nature, and enthusiasm for life have made a lasting impact on all who knew him. Private family interment at Ft Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, Minnesota.
