Obituary of William E. Vogel

World traveler, health nerd, life of the party, and steadfast father, husband, and friend, Bill will be remembered for his commitment  to living a full life and for his passion for learning. Through his faith he was always in search of a greater understanding of himself and the world around him. Our dad loved his children and grandchildren feircely, and always with a smile and a hug for good measure. Dad would say "Everyone needs three good hugs a day." He lived for that human connection.

He was ever present in the moment, whether mundane or extraordinary. Always the jokester, Dad's laughter was big, bold, boundless. Rarely did we see him sad or angry. We will remember him steady, calm, yet always in motion. Dad's sense of style was one of a bygone era, when men wore a tie and dress shoes to a basketball game, smashed together on the color wheel (envision pressed slacks with a purple paisley button-down shirt). Like a snapshot in our memories, we see his gnuine smile and that twinkle in his eye, underneath the kelly-green newsboy hat he brought back from Ireland.

Dad will be missed and remembered by his wife, Marilyn, and his five children, Bill, Jon, Maria, and Susannah and Alison, along with ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild as well as many friends and neighbors. Thank you, dad, for connecting us in family, friendship, and love.

"A great soul serves everyone all the time. A great soul never dies. It brings us together again and again." - Maya Angelou
