Obituary of Janice Marie Hansen

Janice Marie Hansen

August 1, 1930 - December 27, 2021

Janice Marie Hansen went to be with her Lord on Monday, December 27, 2021, after celebrating our Lord's birth with her family. She was born August 1, 1930, in Albert Lea, MN, graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1945, and attended Morningside College in Sioux City, IA, 1948-50. She went on to study at the Lutheran Bible Institute 1951-53 before taking a call to First Lutheran Church in Fremont, NE as a Parish Worker in 1953.

Janice married the widowed Rev. Robert P. "Bob" Hansen on April 28, 1974, taking on the brave role of mother to the 4 Hansen teenagers. She had been a large part of the Hansen family prior to this as Sunday school and confirmation teacher and close family friend, providing support through Harriet Hansen's illness. Janice and Bob loved to travel in their trailer and take day trips on Bob's motorcycle. After Bob succumbed to his battle with cancer in 1999, Janice helped start a support group called "The Solos" for widows and widowers at First Lutheran.

At age 80, she moved back to MN to be near family. Janice remained in her apartment there throughout much of her battle with Alzheimer's with wonderful care and support until transitioning to long-term care in July 2021.

She is survived by 4 stepchildren: Dan Hansen (wife, Cindy), Steve Hansen (wife, Deb), Carol Miller (husband, Brad), Martha "Marti" Foley (husband, Dave); 8 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; sister, Ruth Holm; and niece, Alice Holm.

CELEBRATION OF LIFE RECEPTION for family and friends and community at First Lutheran Church, 3200 E. Military, Fremont, NE 68025 (402-721-2959) on Sunday, June 5th, from 2-4pm. Donations in Janice's memory can be made to First Lutheran in Fremont or to the Alzheimer's Association.
