Obituary of Shelby Jeane Nelson

Shelby J Nelson, age 75, passed away April 2nd, 2022 after a three year battle with cancer. She was surrounded by her family at the home of her son Matt in Fridley MN at the time of her death.

Shelby was preceded in death by her parents Marjorie and Edward Starasinich and brother-in-law James LaViolette.

Shelby is survived by her husband of 40 years Gary, sons Michael (Lindsay} and Matthew, grandchildren Taylor and Jackson, brother Edward ‘Buster’ Starsinich (Connie), sister Sheryl LaViolette. Nieces and nephews Jody(Mark), Jill, Julie, Kirk, Kyle(Kimberly), Karleigh(Joe) and Pete(Deb), special cousin Larry Ivanovich (Jeanne).

Shelby was born in Duluth MN on January 30th, 1947. She attended Morgan Park schools in Duluth. After graduation she moved to the twin cities and worked for North Central Airlines. She also lived in Midland TN and Oakland CA before moving back to the twin cities. She married Gary in 1981 and they moved to Prior Lake. Shelby worked for Combustion Engineering before starting her own home day care. While raising her two sons she became active in their hockey and running hockey tournaments.

Shelby wanted to say thanks to all the wonderful people at the Fairview Cancer Center in Edina. After three years they became family.
