Jane Bushey

Obituary of Jane D Bushey

Jane D. Bushey, age 69, passed away in Duluth, MN on Monday, April 25, 2022 after a four year battle with cancer.

Jane was born in New Richmond, WI on December 30, 1952, daughter of John D. Sutherland and Vivian J. Sutherland (Bush).

Jane graduated from Lincoln High School in Bloomington, MN.  She then graduated from the University of Minnesota and went on to pursue a career in nursing.  She moved to Bailey’s Harbor, WI, where she met a fellow nurse, Dean Bushey of Prentice, WI.  Jane and Dean were married in Sister Bay, WI on May 25, 1985.  Jane and Dean moved to Park Falls, WI later that year to start a family.  Jane was an active member of the community and worked for nineteen years at the Price County Health Department, where her passion was childbirth classes for expectant parents and working with senior citizens.  Jane and Dean parted ways in 1998.

In 2000 Jane met the love of her life, Art Johnston, and they blended families in Park Falls, WI. Jane and Art moved to Duluth in 2006 where she continued her passion for nursing and worked for Duluth Public Schools, serving students with special needs, until she retired in 2020.  Jane's spunkiness and expectation of honesty and excellence sometimes wasn't liked by everyone, but as with everything in her life, she never backed down and wasn't intimidated. She never let up in making life a better place for everyone around her. Even during her cancer years she was a foster parent to help children in need.

She loved to flower garden, bird, collect antiques, read mysteries, decorate her home, take care of her cats, and cook.

Jane was authentic, strong, always had a smile, always had your back, and always did everything right and for the right reasons—making the world a better, more honest, more caring place.

Jane is survived by her love Art Johnston of Duluth,  son Andrew Bushey (Elizabeth Epstein, fiancé) of Chicago, daughter Jamie Bushey of Denver, Art’s two children, Jesse Johnston (Ricky Punzalan) of Ann Arbor, MI, and Gabe Johnston (Sam Minkler) of Blaine, MN. She is survived by her brother David Sutherland (Karen) and her sister Sherry Sutherland all of Florida.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

There will be a memorial service in June.

It is asked that any memorial donations be made to the Minnesota Ovarian Cancer Alliance at https://mnovarian.org/ways-to-give/
