Age 69, passed away unexpectedly on April 16th, 2022, at his home in Mendota Heights, MN. John was born on April 29, 1952, in St. Paul, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Marjorie Steenberg; and sister, Sally. Survived by loving wife, Bonnie; children, Holly (Mike) Engstrom, Erik (Julia); brother, Edward (Jan); and grandchildren, Jake, Joey, Johnny, Jimmy, Elsa, and Dane.
John attended college at the Colorado School of Mines and later graduated in 1975 from the University of Minnesota Institute of Technology. He spent his career as a successful structural bridge engineer, designing many bridges across Minnesota. He loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing and spending time with his children and grandchildren at the family cabin. John was very proud of his Danish heritage and spent countless hours researching his ancestry. One of his other passions was the restoration of the 7-acre family plot of land where he grew up in Mendota Heights and where he and Bonnie built their retirement home. His legacy will live on in the beauty of that project.
