Obituary of Vernon Claypool Jones
Vernon Claypool "Dean" Jones
Born November 29, 1931 in Des Moines, Iowa. Vernon passed quietly in his sleep on February 1, 2022. Vern was adopted as an infant by his parents, Clarence and Bernice Jones. He attended the Iowa School for the Deaf throughout his school career where he was involved in academics, sports and student body activities. He received training as a pressman while in school and went on to work at Wallace Homestead Publishing Company in Des Moines. He retired from the United States Post Office in St. Paul in 1993 with 20 years of service. Vernon was active and served in many leadership roles in the deaf community and was instrumental in establishing the Southern Nevada Silver Knights developmental sports teams for deaf and hard of hearing students in the Las Vegas area. Vernon is survived by his daughters Rose (Robert) Kircher, Jane (Robert) Shaffer and Jennifer Schlegel. Step-daughter Becky (Rick)Murphy, Step-son Timothy Mitchell (Jen), Step-son Mark Mitchell. grandchildren Timothy Nichols, Stephanie White, Andrew Shaffer, Kathryn Shaffer, Jacqueline Jones, Joshua Jones, Nicole Murphy, Samantha Murphy, Cole, Colin, Sarah, Delilah Mitchell, Jsonin & Angelica Schlegel. Seven great grandchildren, and seven great great grandchildren. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents Clarence and Bernice, sons Richard, Timothy, Joel and the love of his life, his wife Sandra. Arrangements at the Cremation Society of MN. It is requested that memorials be given to the Thompson Hall for the Deaf in St. Paul, Mn or to Lyngblomsten Senior Apartments in St Paul, MN . Memorial services will be held on Fathers Day 2022.
