Obituary of Katherine "Kathy" Lynn Thompson

Kathy Lynn Thompson (Johnson), 71, passed from this life on Monday, January 24, 2022 at the University of Minnesota West Bank Hospital with her family by her side.

Kathy was born October 12, 1950, in Minneapolis, to Harvey and Dorthy (Nelson) Johnson. Kathy graduated from Lincoln High School in Bloomington, Minnesota in 1968. She devoted most of her young adult life to raising, providing, and protecting her four children. She worked at many different jobs while raising her children but spend most of her working life as an executive secretary for lawyers, doctors, banks, and church offices.

Kathy married Mark Thompson on January 26, 2002. Mark and Kathy both were divorced previously, and they blended into a family of six children and five grandchildren. She retired from working professionally when they got married and devoted much of her time to her children and grandchildren.

Kathy loved traveling around the country with Mark and they went on several short-term mission trips to China, Viet Nam, and Africa when they were first married. Part of their travels took them to the Fort Myers and Sanibel Island area of SW Florida for vacations in the winter and they loved the area so much that they purchased a home in Fort Myers in 2004. They spent more time there each year and became Florida residence in 2019. Kathy loved to read books and do puzzles but most of all she loved to gather and nurture her family and many friends. She was the best hugger in the world and loved organizing and decorating her home.

Kathy is preceded in death by parents Harvey and Dorthy Johnson and her sister Karen Johnson. She is survived by her sister Chrissy (Bob) Florey, four children Shari (Robert) Bougie, Tim (Luz) Fortner, Todd Fortner, Shannon (Josh) Bottelfson, and two stepchildren, Sarah Fortner and Joe (Anne) Thompson. Nineteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life service will be held for Kathy on February 10, 2022, at 11: 00 AM (visitation at 10:00 AM) at Cedar Valley Church, 8600 Bloomington Ave. S., Bloomington, MN 55425.
