Obituary of Joseph Frederick Gingerelli II

 

Joseph "Joe" Gingerelli passed away on January 14, 2022, at Essentia Health-St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth following a brief illness.

Joe was born on May 18, 1955, in Duluth to Joe Gingerelli and Irene (Jannetta) Gingerelli. He attended Duluth's Cathedral and Central High Schools. He followed in his parents footsteps, working in hospitality for many years, eventually establishing Papa G’s Pizza. Later he found his niche working in automotive sales management and retired in 2015.

Besides being an avid golfer and his grandchildren’s biggest supporter, Joe was a supporter of youth sports and was involved in the Denfeld Hockey Boosters, Duluth 709 Baseball, Piedmont Hockey Association, Proctor Area Youth Baseball, Superior Youth Organization, U.S. Baseball Academy at Proctor, War Eagles Baseball, and Western Little League.

He is survived by his daughter, Sonja Gingerelli of Minneapolis, and his son, Joe Gingerelli III of Duluth; his grandchildren Zoe Glynn, Giuliana Gingerelli, and Dominic Gingerelli; his sisters, Carolyn Gingerelli and Bonnie (Gary) Ostlund, both of Cedar, Minnesota; and his brother, Rick (Sandy) Gingerelli, of Columbia Heights, Minnesota; Nephew Dan Ostlund, of Blaine, Minnesota.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents.

Services will take place Monday, February 7, 2022 with visitation at 2:00 pm and service at 3:00 pm. A reception will immediately follow the service. Funeral service provided by Cremation Society of Minnesota, 4100 Grand Avenue, Duluth, with Fr. Andrew Ricci of the Diocese of Superior officiating. Inurnment will be at Calvary Cemetery in Duluth at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, please make a donation of your time, talent, or treasure to an area youth sports organization of your choice, or consider becoming a sports official.

The family kindly requests that you wear your sports organization's apparel to the service, so that the variety of communities with which Joe was involved can be on display, but please remove hats while indoors.
