Our Dad, Gordon Gundersen brought me and my brothers, John and Jim up to Paul's Farm many summers to get out of the city and give our Mother Lorraine a break. We quickly learned that going to Paul's also meant staying at Paul & Lorretta's Turkey farm and hanging out with the Skarie Boys and Susan. We learned to talk to turkeys, attempt to do chores and get a feel for farm life.
To my Dad, I think Paul was the brother he never had, Dad seemed more alive on the farm. I moved out to Oregon in the 80's but fortunately my Mom and Sisters Mary and Sue and Aunt Betty kept me in the loop through family reunion tales.
Technically Paul wasn't my uncle, but he sure felt like one. A hard working good man, with a quiet sense of humor and a positive outlook on life, that made everyone around him feel better. He will be missed but never forgotten.
