Obituary of Florence Virginia Layne

Florence Virginia (Niemi) Layne, age 93, passed away peacefully on Tuesday November 30, 2021, in Minneapolis, MN surrounded by loved ones. She was born in Waukegan, IL, daughter to Finnish immigrants Eino and Tynne Niemi. She graduated from Waukegan High School in May of 1945 and shortly after married Adrian Layne, the love of her life on December 5th, 1945, while he was on leave from service in the Korean war. They resided in Lake Bluff, IL for many years and had three children, Linda, Larry and Lisa. Adrian preceded her in death in 1994 and their daughter, Linda in 1999. Florence cherished family and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She was also strong and resilient, living independently and driving into her 90's. She had a great smile and would love to tell you a story or a joke, in detail of course. Her memory was sharp as a tack. She loved to watch Nascar and horse racing and knew all the stats of her favorites. Florence is survived by her son and daughter in law, Larry and Ellen Layne of Beach Park, IL, her daughter and son in law Lisa and Jeff Seccombe of Lakeville, MN and her grandchildren, Lindsay (Tyler) Weis and Cody Seccombe. And of course, all the fur grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by many, whose lives she touched. She can now be reunited with those she loves who have gone before her. A private service will be held on December 23rd at NorthShore Garden of Memories in North Chicago where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. Donations can be made to the Red Cross or a Charity of choice in her honor.
