Robert Barnidge

Obituary of Robert John Barnidge

Robert John Barnidge left us for a new journey on December 14, 2021.  He was born in Chisholm, MN on March 10, 1930 to John and Edith Barnidge. He graduated from Chisholm High School, worked for US Steel before being in the US Army serving in the Korean War as a medical technician in a United Nations Hospital in Tokyo, Japan. After the service he returned and graduated from UMD where he met Marilew Latto and they were married Aug. 2, 1958.

During 63 years of marriage they had three children Tom, Betsy, and David all born and raised in Duluth along with 4 faithful and loved dogs. He worked for Fire Underwriters Inspection Bureau which became Insurance Services Office for 32 years retiring in 1990. His retired years were spent working on his homestead, traveling to visit friends and relatives, and enjoying his grandchildren Miles, Preston, and Sydney. After selling the homestead in Duluth and moving to Realife, Bob dedicated his excellent maintenance skills to the old log family cabin on Sand Lake….this was a great labor of love that kept his mind and body active.

Bob was, and in our hearts always will be, a kind, generous man with a great sense of humor that people appreciated and express how they will miss.

Bob is survived by his wife of 63 years Marilew, son Tom and Mary granddaughter Sydney of Apple Valley MN; daughter Betsy and David Podas of Los Angeles, CA; Son David and Phyllis grandsons Miles and Preston of Rochester, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Marjorie.
