Obituary of Judith Ann Portillo

Judith Ann Portillo lost her battle with Lewy Body Dementia on November 27, 2021 at Heritage of Edina in Edina, Minnesota surrounded by her family. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister and grandmother who was greatly loved by many. She will be most remembered for the kindness and love she not only showed to her family, but to all those she encountered.

Judith was born in Boise, Idaho in 1945 and spent her childhood in Los Angeles California, where she later attended Saint Mary’s Academy in Inglewood, California. She pursued elementary education and became a teacher who was remembered for her loving dedication to her students. Married to Joe Portillo for 41 years, she was a devoted and loving mother and wife, always putting the needs of family first. She spent her motherhood years ensuring her children felt loved, experienced the world with wonder and understood what it meant to be a family. Once her children got older she worked for several years with Hughes Aircraft and Palomar Products as a buyer/planner.

Judith was always opening her home to those who needed a place to go, inviting them for holidays, barbecues and backyard pool parties. She will be remembered for making great food, having fun parties and providing people with a sense of family. She always believed life was a gift and lived her life celebrating it.

Judith is survived by her children, Joseph and Elizabeth Portillo, her daughter-in-law Britt Portillo, granddaughter, Christine Portillo, grandson Anders Boyd, (Amber), great grandson Kaiden Boyd, her brothers, Patrick Duffy (Mary) and Dennis Duffy (Susan) as well as several nieces’ nephews, in-laws and friends. She will be remembered for her fun-loving spirit, giving nature and unconditional love towards others.

Judith is preceded in death by Husband, Joe Portillo, Mother Beverly Duffy and Father Patrick Duffy.

Services will be held Friday January 14th at 2PM at the Saint John campus of Saint Gabriel Catholic Church at 6 Interlachen Road, Hopkins, MN 55343. A celebration of life will follow at the home of her son and daughter-in law, Joseph and Britt Portillo. Judith will be laid to rest with her husband Joe at the National Cemetery in Riverside at a later date. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you make a donation to the Lewy Body Dementia Association. https://www.lbda.org

“May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind always be at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face, and rains fall soft upon your fields. And until we meet again, May God hold you in the palm of His hand.”
