Bonnie Sondreal

Obituary of Bonnie Rae Sondreal

Our Beloved Mother and Grandma entered into heaven peacefully on Monday, December 6th, 2021 at the age of 65. She was surrounded by her family and passed peacefully after a beautiful sunrise, riding the rays to heaven.

Bonnie was born on October 2nd, 1956 to William and Verna Mae Reimer in Huron, SD. When she was young, she would be found playing with neighborhood friends and helping on the family farm. She was always up for a new adventure and lived life to the fullest.

Bonnie was united in marriage to Donnie Sondreal on January 27th, 1973.  Together they raised three children: Bobbie, Christina and Dustin.  They lived in Arizona, Williston (ND), Grand Forks (ND), East Grand Forks (MN), and finally landing in Thompson (ND) in 1987. At every home she always had a beautiful flower garden that she enjoyed working in.

Bonnie worked at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks in various positions for 31 years.  She made many friends and kept those friendships even after retirement. She retired from work in 2018 to focus her time and energy with her family. She moved to the Twin Cities to live close to her three children and nine grandchildren.

Bonnie loved visiting with friends and family and had a contagious smile.  There was always plenty of laughter, good food and special times. She had the biggest sweet tooth and was well known for her baking. She was a renowned cookie maker and usually had a kitchen mess to prove it. She had the patience of a saint and created many memories with her grandchildren baking, planting flowers, going to the park and having no rules.

Bonnie was diagnosed with Metastatic Thyroid Cancer in March of 2006. She had a courageous battle and was a positive light to anyone else going through the same struggles.  “One Day at a Time” was her motto until the very end. Everyone was amazed by her determination, always battling throughher obstacles with grace. Her perseverance allowed for many additional memories of watching her grandchildren grow and play. Her bucket list was filled with cheering on her grandchildren in activities and sporting events, reading and telling stories, or just watching them play in the yard.

Bonnie is survived by her three children, Bobbie (Chad) Jossart of St. Michael, MN, Christina (Michael) Purfeerst of Prior Lake, MN, Dustin (Crystal) Sondreal of Hanover, MN; Nine grandchildren, Katelyn, Rachel and Ryan Jossart, Natalie, Makayla and Charles Purfeerst, Camryn, Ivy and Beau Sondreal; her siblings, Shirley Buckley, Gary (Barb) Reimer, Glenn (Toni) Reimer and everyone else who knew her as Grandma or Auntie Bonnie.
