William Stern

Obituary of William Henry Stern

William was born September 1st, 1928. He passed away peacefully on November 21st, 2021 at the Solvay Hospice House. 

At 16, he sailed on the Great Lakes to get his saltwater papers and served in the US Merchant Marine before joining the navy in WWII at 17.  He was drafted in November 1950 into the US Army. He served two years in Korea, receiving a bronze star. In 1953 he married Sharon Ann Wilson. They were married for 54 years before she passed away in 2007. Bill worked as an apprentice carpenter, warehouse supervisor, baker, and for the St. Louis County Welfare Department as a social worker.

He is survived by four sons, Jeffrey William Stein, Craig Von Stein, Curtis James Stein, and Christopher Lee Stein, daughter-in-law Remedios Paunil Stein, grandson William Jeffrey Stein, sister-in-law Mrs. Pat (Kathryn) Lewis, and brother-in-law Robert Charles Heffernan.
