Obituary of Ronald Robert Miller
Ronald (Ron) Robert Miller, 83 of Duluth died peacefully in his home on the evening of December 3, 2021 from Covid. Ron was born to the late Charles and Mabel Miller of Duluth, September 24, 1938. He was a graduate of Duluth Central High School.
Ron was a proud veteran serving in the Navy from 1957-1961 on the USS Haverfield, an Edsall-class destroyer escort. He worked as an elevator operator and bellhop at the Hotel Duluth and went on to work at US Steel in Morgan Park. In 2000, Ron retired after 33 years of working in the board mill at Conwed USG in Cloquet. He volunteered his time coaching Little League baseball and was an avid watcher of baseball and football games. But his true passion was fishing. He was well known to frequent the Island Lake bridge, which he did faithfully for over 70 years. During the winter months, he made thousands of his own fishing jigs, which were a coveted secret.
Ron enjoyed taking his beloved wife Sandy swing dancing and also loved a good polka. Ron and Sandy spent many weeks each summer hosting family and friends at their favorite cabin on Fish Lake. Ron lovingly cared for his precious Bichon, Phoebe, who was always at his side. He leaves behind his wife of 55 years, Sandy. Together they raised two sons, Kenneth Miller and Keith Miller (Kris Miller). Ron will be greatly missed by his six grandchildren Kenny Miller (RizaMae Merkouirs), Derek Miller, Shelby Miller, Noah Miller (Addie Gerdes), Nathan Miller, and Gianna Miller.
Visitation will be at Cremation Society of MN (4100 Grand Ave) on Friday, December 10th at 10:00 with a service of Thanksgiving at 11:00 and reception to follow. Masks will be required.
