Obituary of Milton "Butch" Ernest Borel

Milton “Butch” Ernest Borel died Wednesday, December 1 after a brief illness in Roseville, MN. Milton was a true renaissance soul: an artist, an engineer, and a great thinker. One of the highlights of his life was working on Robert Kennedy Jr.’s presidential campaign. In addition to brightening his family and friends’ days with laughter and kindness, Milt devoted his time and resources to support people in crisis in his community and around the world.

Milt attended Northside High School in Corning, NY, and earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering at George Washington University. He lived in several places around the country during his life, most recently settling in the Midwest to be with his grandchildren. Wherever he was, however, his heart was always in the Finger Lakes where he spent many happy years at his family’s cabin on Keuka Lake and his own house on Cayuga Lake. He shared his love of fishing and boating with his daughter and grandchildren, creating new generations of lake children.

He is survived by his wife of fifty years, Susan Borel; his sisters, Sharon Smith and Julie Errett; his daughter, Jennifer Scholte; and his grandchildren, Sofie and Bastian Scholte. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the organizations closest to Milt’s heart: the International Rescue Committee (www.rescue.org) and Sandy Hook Promise (sandyhookpromise.org). His family has set up a memorial page at www.mykeeper.com/profile/MiltonBorel/ for family and friends to share their memories.
