Obituary of Donald Gordon Ellison
Donald Gordon Ellison (Don), 94, of Duluth Heights, died Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at Diamond Willow, Proctor.
Don was born in Duluth on April 12, 1927 to Emilie and Edwin Arthur Ellison. He grew up in the Hermantown area, graduating from Hermantown High School in 1945. Immediately following his graduation, he was drafted into the army and received his basic training in Little Rock, Arkansas. Don was then stationed at Third Army Headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany and worked as a cable transcriber. After being discharged from the army, Don attended Duluth Business University graduating with a diploma in accounting. He was hired by Hartley Trust and faithfully served as an accountant and office manager for the Hartley family for 44 years.
Don married Margie Nordeen on June 30, 1951. Together they raised their two children in the Duluth Heights area. Don was a dedicated family man who enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. His grandchildren particularly cherish the times they spent together swimming in the pool, going to the cabin and having wonderful sleepovers at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. Don was especially proud of his Norwegian heritage and enjoyed his annual lutefisk dinners. He also enjoyed reading and watching historical documentaries, traveling, and gardening. Everyone who knew Don referred to him as the sweetest and kindest person they had ever met.
Don was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years and his parents. He is survived by his two children, Linda (Terry) Belich of Prior Lake and Donald R. (Michelle) Ellison of Duluth; six grandchildren, David (Leighann) Belich of Lee’s Summit, MO, Daniel Belich of Shakopee, Kristen (Tomas) Lorincz of Shakopee, Chris Belich of Bloomington, Scott (Jill) Ellison of Duluth, and Michael Ellison of Duluth; five great-granddaughters, Clara and Eliana Belich, Gemma and Colette Lorincz, Tova Ellison, and another great-grandchild due in April. Don is also survived by his cousin, David (Shirley) Hogan of Blaine.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Midlo for his excellent care.
