Obituary of Pauline L. King

Pauline L. King

Pauline Louise Idso King was born in Amenia, North Dakota, on August 14, 1923, to Ingham and Geraldine (Helland) Idso. She grew up in Amenia surrounded by two brothers and an extended Norwegian family which included many cousins.

Pauline graduated from Amenia High School in 1941 and from Concordia College in December, 1944. She began her teaching career that winter in Hitterdal, Minnesota. Pauline then taught two years in Verndale, Minnesota, one year in Thompson Falls, Montana, and two years in Montevideo, Minnesota.  One summer between school years included a memorable adventure traveling to Alaska via train and ship, working in a fish cannery in Seldovia, Alaska, near beautiful Kachemak Bay, and returning home via airplane.

While teaching in Verndale, Pauline rented a room from the Kings and was introduced to their son, Bob. Pauline and Bob were married on August 19,1950, at Herby Lutheran Church in Argusville, North Dakota.  They welcomed three children, and Pauline became a devoted mother. The family enjoyed camping at Leech Lake and four extended camping trips exploring the United States. During this time, Pauline was also a Blue Bird and Camp Fire leader, a Sunday School teacher, and a confirmation leader.

As her children grew, Pauline returned to the teaching career she loved. She spent over 25 years as a special education teacher in the Richfield Public Schools.

Pauline and Bob were members of Emmaus Lutheran Church. Pauline was a member of two circle groups (with friends from two churches), the quilters, and the Gideons Auxiliary.  She also volunteered teaching English to Hmong immigrants and served as a Bible Study Fellowship leader. In retirement,  Pauline and Bob made trips to Europe and to many places in the United States.

Pauline was an accomplished seamstress, voracious reader, enthusiastic gardener, and an intellectually curious woman, but she wanted most to be remembered as the amazing mother, grandmother and dedicated teacher she was. Her trust in Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior was evidenced in everything she did.

Pauline passed away on November 11, 2021, in the Richfield home she had lived in for 71 years. She is survived by her children Andrea (Paul), Roberta (Scott), and Tim (Lisa), six grandchildren,  eight great-grandchildren, two sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob, her parents, and her two brothers, Pete and Bud.

The family would like to thank the Park Nicollet Methodist Hospice team for their wonderful care and support, the Emmaus Visitation Team for their faithful visits and two special friends that Pauline loved like daughters; Carol Henning for her cards and visits and JoAnn Oberg for coming alongside our family as we lovingly cared for Pauline in her final days.
