Shirley was a powerful advocate in my life. She demonstrated direct action and compassion and all she did. Specifically she helped me navigate the relationship with my landlord at my first salon in Duluth. Because I was a queer feminist the property management at my salon location was trying to limit what I put in the windows and Shirley advocated for my free-speech. She also helped connect me with other young people who were in the LGBT community so that I could mentor and be mentored through my coming out process. My life has been very positively impacted by Shirley being in the world. She will be missed.
