Obituary of Eileen Irene Janczak (Pietila)

Eileen Irene Janczak (Pietila), 88, died on Monday, October 4, 2021, at St. Luke’s Hospital Hospice.

Eileen was born in Automba, Minnesota to Hilda (Karjala) and Oscar Pietila on January 26, 1933, and graduated from Barnum High School. Eileen and Wallace Janczak met at a polka dance, fell in love and were married on October 24, 1953.

Eileen worked at Litton Industries, Duluth National Bank, and the City of Duluth in the Planning Department.

Eileen and Wally enjoyed being with family, attending polka dances, camping at Round Lake, and taking road trips to Yuma, Arizona and Alaska, where Eileen’s brother lived. She was a member of St. Josephat’s Polish National Catholic Church.

Eileen was preceded in death by her husband Wally Janczak, parents, brother Harvey Pietila, sister-in-law Shirley Pietila and nephew Steve Pietila. Eileen is survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Eileen was a very special, loving daughter, sister, wife, cousin, auntie, great-auntie and friend. A heartfelt thank you to The Rev. Steve Wlosinski, special neighbor Bonnie, St. Luke’s in-home hospice nurse Jen, social worker Nicole, as well as St. Luke’s hospice team for their kind care.

Honoring Eileen’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.
